To Dita… With Love

The word ‘icon’ gets thrown around a lot these days… and sometimes you really have to wonder what this really means? According to the Oxford Dictionary, an icon is:

“A person or thing regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration.”

Dita Von Teese is one such symbol. Her pursuit of challenging our society’s understanding of beauty, sensuality and sexuality has seen her raise from performer to a venerable brand. Make no mistake, not only has she helped popularise burlesque performance and fashion into mainstream culture; her brand is helping shape a stronger, empowered and embracive vision of female beauty. Whilst the feminist debate surrounding Dita will never die (another testament to her cultural significance) one fact is true: the ‘femme fatale’ still suggests the importance of a man to be victim of seduction and I’m not really entirely convinced ‘he’ has anything to do with it.

Muse, Stefania Ferrario models the latest collection for Dita Von Teese Lingerie in this editorial shot by Penny Lane. With Dita on her ‘Strip, Strip, Hooray’ world tour, what better time to celebrate this iconic woman?
